Two questions for anyone: (1) What does FUBAR stand for? (2) Why do they call New Orleans "The Crescent City"?

Why do they call New Orleans "The Crescent City"? Thanks!

It seems no one answered this one. The Mississippi River curls around about 3 sides of the city in the shape of a crescent. Lake Pontchartrain is on the other (north) side.
