A roll call vote was held this afternoon in the U.S. House of Representatives for bill H.R. 3673, which is intended to provide "further emergency supplemental appropriations to meet immediate needs arising from the consequences of Hurricane Katrina, for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2005, and for other purposes." The full text of H.R. 3673 is available here. The bill passed with a vote of 410-11, with twelve representatives not voting. Of the eleven who voted against the bill, all were Republicans of a more fiscally-conservative, libertarian philosophy. Below are the names of the eleven Republicans who voted against the bill:
To see Ron Paul and John Hostettler vote against a spending bill is far from the most surprising thing ever to happen in the U.S. House, but some of these other Republicans seem to have had relatively little obvious reason to vote against the bill. Perhaps one or several of these representatives will issue a statement explaining his or her vote.
Virtually all of these seats are safe for 2006, though Butch Otter is considered the front-runner to succeed incumbent Republican Gov. Dirk Kempthorne, who will not be running for re-election. It remains to be seen whether or not this vote will affect the political future of any of these individuals.
we need to get as much of NO back up and running as fast as we can - and get the people who cannot return relocated into other cities/states as fast as possible. the Dems are not going to let go of this, they are going to bankrupt us with spending on everything under the sun related to Katrina - and our party does not have any political courage to stop it.
This is a principled vote. The Crocodile Tears Left is going to squeeze this disaster for as much graft as it will give. Time to say not so fast, early and often.
"Not Yours To Give."
Well said.
That means that the legislators couldn't get their fingers in the pot to get some pork for their districts.
What did Tom Tancredo think this was somehow, someway related to illegals?
And I applaud them!! About time!
I have absolutely no problem with their principled "no" votes. I just wish that they and their colleagues would do more of it...
"Not Yours to Give." Google that entire term, it will take you to Ron Paul's web site, and a remarkable story about Congressman Davy Crockett. Not terribly long, if you have not read it, all Freepers should be familiar with it. It certainly explains Paul's stance, and why it should be the stance of all who represent us.
Thanks. I'll check it out.
If you must rebuild move it up river about 50 miles.
There is no reason for NOLA to exist except as a curiosity.
Then take the money that was appropriated and start a canal from the mexican gulf to the pacfic.
Helps control the border and sets up a large enterprise zone for refineries, etc.
# James Sensenbrenner, Wisconsin; is my crongress critter. Good for him.
Thanks for the list.
Let people take care of people. Get the government out, they have more important things to do like run baseball.
As opposed to the way that W and the GOP have been bankrupting us with spending on everything under the son on every other branch of government?
That parts only above sea level.
we should help these evacuees, no doubt about it. and we should rebuild at least parts of the city where its sane to rebuild.
but where is 2 billion dollars a day going to? we spend 5 billion a month in iraq.
The fact that it is paid for by more borrowing rather than spending cuts elsewhere is reason enough to vote against the bill.
At least there are a few fiscal conservatives left.
