I would have been gone too. However, if I saw that my area was relatively unaffected, I would have left the wife and children in safety and returned on Monday or Tuesday after the storm to protect my life's savings (home, possession, etc) and I would have come armed.
I am not interested in a firefight either...but would defend both my property and my rights. Sooner or later, if people do not do so...there will be no place you can run. Just my opinion.

I hear you. Still, anyone who remains there and attempts, alone, to assert their rights using firearms to hold their ground is going to be dead. One person will not succeed in this battle.
There is idealism and there is reality. Perhaps if you could organize an entire block, you might stand the LEOs off for a time, but not indefinitely.
In this situation, I would not be willing to pay with my life. I would be a long way from New Orleans, and would probably never return there. I'm flexible enough to go where I can, and smart enough not to ever own property in a city that is below sea level.
These confiscation actions are clearly unconstitutional. I'm sure it will be a matter that will reach the courts. In the meantime, I'd be outa there. It's that simple.
CNN interviewed a guy this morning who made it clear that he was going to fight to stay in his home. We shall see. If he does, he will certainly lose his life as soon as he fires on the LEOs or NG folks. He will gain nothing.
