And what precisely is the difference between marriage and domestic partnerships in California?

If you don't understand what "marriage between one man and one woman" means, I'm not going to belabor the point with you. You can go to any protestant minister or Catholic Priest and ask them for something to read, a time to talk it over, and you'll probably find someone among them who will have an appointment time for you.

I'll give you a difference, and it's an important one: The people of California, in a 62-38% vote, decided that marriage would have a certain definition in their state.

The legislature took it upon themselves to pat the people on the head and substitute their own definition of marriage.

The governor acted to protect the right of the people to govern themselves.

If the people wanted to mandate that all hot fudge sundaes be referred to as "fishead specials" and the legislature overrode it, a veto would be a ppropriate. Democracy is democracy.

Why are you continuing to ask this question, directed to me?

What do YOU think it is? You seem to have some need to discuss the "non differences" as you perceive them, so, hey, feel free...there are a lot of others here who have already tried to discuss what you alluding to, I'm sure they'd be happy to drag this out with you.

Go ahead, make no one's day. As in, no one cares. The significance remains as I've already suggested to you.

One is marriage. One isn't.
