Even if it meant drowning?

even if it meant drowning.

of course, had I been in the situation, I would have left the city.

But the principal holds. I consider my pets part of my family. They either go with me, or I stay. I don't really care if I am wrong or not either.

All the more reason to plan ahead. Meowmeow's kitty has her own bug-out-bag. Where we go, she goes, and it won't be to a government shelter.

Call me a ^*(@&^$@$ if you must, but some of the most heart wrenching scenes (to me) have been the loss or trauma to the animals. I feel more sorry for them than the people who had warning and means to leave. Pets depend on their owners.

you are absolutely 100% correct.

Humans can fend for themselves. Pets, in a situation like this, especially with no source of clean drinking water, cannot.

If it was me, I'd find a way to save my puppy. There's always a way out if you look hard enough.

Couple days ago I donated to the pet shelter Noah's Wish since they're rescuing the abandoned pets around NO. Reading this thread makes me want to donate again if it'll save even a few more pets!

My wife and I talked about this the other day. We concluded it would be more humane to shoot the dog dead than leave him to starve to death.

That would break our hearts, naturally, but considering the desperate choices available . . .

Pets depend on their owners.

Except for cats. They own the "owner." :)

I will die before I abandon my cat -- 23+yo!

When someone is part of your life for nearly 1/2 of your adulthood, it is criminal to treat her as any less than a family member.

The only problem with me dying is she wouldn't understand why I am not there for her. I suspect she will lie down and meet me in the afterlife almost immediately.

For the idiots who think God doesn't have a place for our furry family members, they must not know real love -- just reflection.

If heaven doesn't have my cat from before and the one I have now, I don't want to go.

They are particularly helpless when confined.

I hope they didn't go away and leave this one like this. (from the source article)

that just kills me.

My older Husky was found, neglected and abused. She went through 4 different shelters/rescues before my wife got her when I was in Iraq.

She is absolutely the sweetest dog I have ever had.

This just breaks my heart and makes me want to go give her a hug and play with her...

Everyone knows puppies are not animals; they're little children.

Not letting someone take a little pet along, not even in a carrier or travel bag, does not save a human life in exchange.

Maybe it's being looked after, it does have water right there. ~sigh~

Our latest addition was a lost soul found hanging out in front of a store... We've got him now, and wouldn't leave him, or the rest of our rag-tag bunch, dogs, horses, cat.... we'd be a heck of a sight goin' down the road in an evacuation. :~D

No, it isn't.
My step-daughter fled with six kids, three dogs, four cats and a bird.
They managed to find a hotel in Georgia to take them in, and last year she came up here.
