?
lol.
Thank you for the admonition. I am justly chastised. The only safe thing to do in this politically correct society is not talk, or even think. Isn't that the plan? So much easier to control us then.
Things are still crazy, but we are making progress. Did any of you see Gen Honore in his news conference today? Now you know why people love this man.
The 82nd Airborne is still doing the house to house searches, and this will take a long time. They are finding the dead, and we are working to treat them with the dignity they deserve.
There are so many heroes in this operation, and I ain't one of them. The real heroes are the folks in New Orleans and in Mississippi. As Lt Gen Honore said today, Mississippi yesterday and today, there is swath of destruction 3 to 2 1/2 miles inland, and had not New Orleans flooded, MS would be the center of attention.
There are now 30,000 National Guard and 10,000 active duty in MS and LA. The military is now fully mobilized. So much to do though.
God bless.
Here's my take, Archidamus.
Had the Superdome been filled with a similar number of people from one of the black middle-class suburban neighborhoods of Atlanta, the racial composition would have been same, but there would not have been the murders, rapes, muggings, etc that we have read reports of.
While many other jurisdictions, such as New York City under Giuliani, paid close attention to social theorists such as James Q. Wilson and his "broken window theory" of crime, New Orleans apparently did not. While in much of the United States, civil and law enforcement authorities understood the importance of making extra efforts to raise their conviction rates and keep hardened criminals off the street longer, with the result that such criminals have less influence on the young people in their neighborhoods, and that crime rates dropped dramatically, and that the cultural atmosphere considerably improved, New Orleans apparently did not.
The blame lies first with those scumbags who are the criminals, but secondarily, with liberal policies that failed the people of New Orleans and these unfortunate foreign visitors.
"It's the culture, stupid"
"Look, there were claims that a lot more than "rape" took place ~ so where's the evidence? Pictures would be nice,.."
No, they wouldnt.
A superbowl full of Koreans or Japanese, under the same conditions, would have organized itself into platoons, companies and battalions, with elected leaders.
There would have been child care centers, security teams, and foraging teams.
In fact, I did hear of Vietnamese areas in NO turning down help, because they had their areas under control, were prepared, and said others needed emergency help more than they did.
You can't ignore the cultural factors in a crisis like this.
Roger, out!
Yep, he is.
I quite agree, what I'm saying is that the culture can be influenced, for good or bad, by government policies.
We await formal complaints, interviews by experienced investigators, and presentation of other evidence.
I would like to see investigations as well. There must be hundreds of eyewitnesses available.
[sorry, have to stop typing anytime Charles Krauthammer speaks]
These folks were mostly all from the same neighborhoods, so people should be able to ID at least most of the perps.
On the other hand, the NOPD doesn't seem to be the strongest in terms of conducting competent investigations even in the best of circumstances.
"It's the Rap culture and BET TV that makes all these black kids wannabe criminals and thugs. Katrina gave them a chanch to live out their fantasies."
Yes, but don't forget grand theft auto. It is a SICK and scary culture shift.
...and Tulane will have a REALLY tough time coming back from this. Who would want their kid to go there now (other than Tulane alums)?
"Two have already been arrested for going into the woman's showers on two occasions."
Out of 200 theres 2 who dont belong here.
Someone said the criminal element is at least 1%.
They seem to have already met that prediction at Reed Arena.
You have the story for that?
I owe you an apology, should have read the rest of the thread before I jumped the gun and replied to you. Take care, stay safe and God bless.
No prob. Hang in there. You and all those down there are in our prayers.
