I can tell you from someone who lives at the south shore of long island, there is no plan to evacuate long island. its impossible to do. the best plan I have seen is that everyone north of sunrise highway "evacuates in place", and everyone south of it simply "goes north". where they go, I have no idea. for those that don't have friends and family, we have one coliseum that holds maybe 20K people, other parts of the plan say that people should drive to the shopping malls and park in the concrete parking structures and ride it out there in their cars.
At least LI is above sea level...a little bit.
Can you imagine the Throg's Neck Bridge during an emergency? Good Lord!
I don't even want to think about it. The thing that sucked about the Shoreham nuke plant was that they built the dang thing without designing an escape plan. That was years ago. No way would LI be able to evacuate in the event of a major disaster.
