Nothing unfortunately but I am certain like your country it is only found in certain areas of each town one just has to hope if there is a natural disaster there are enough self sufficient people in the area to cope in the initial phase until outside help arrives.

Has anyone seen a single critisizm of the local gov't on ANY show yet?
And I don't mean the usual "Bush directed the hurricane towards the black neighborhoods to kill democrats because he is a racist" blame... I mean simple things, like why didn't the mayor declair earlier like the Feds were pressing him to, or why did he not activate the 250 school busses in NO, and rather let them sit and get flooded?
250+ Left here
150 municipally-owned NORTA buses left less than a mile from the superdome

When I read verbiage like the above I go into a state of total despair. I was listening to a conservative talk show in Boston yesterday. A girl named Tanisha (sounded about 17) called to say the whole problem is that Bush is the devil and that's why the US keeps having such awful things happen and the US won't have any good luck until he's out. (She is apparently even more insane than the guy who called to say Bush is engineering the gas shortage because his family owns about half the oil reserves in the world.)

I will say that I saw Chertoff with Brown in a brief press conference this morning and was much more impressed.

Aaron Broussard, Judge
Subpoenaed In Corruption Probe POSTED: 5:37 am CDT August 18, 2005
NEW ORLEANS -- Two more Jefferson Parish officials are being drawn into the corruption probe dubbed Operation Wrinkled Robe, according to a newspaper report.
The Times-Picayune reports that investigators have issued subpoenas to Parish President Aaron Broussard and 24th District Judge Kernan "Skip" Hand.
The story says the subpoenas are related to political donations made by Bail Bonds Unlimited to Hand's campaigns.
Last month, Judge Alan Green was convicted of mail fraud as a result of the ongoing investigation.
He was caught by FBI video surveillance taking an envelope stuffed with money from a Bail Bonds Unlimited employee.

Russert is screaming so loudly, waving his arms, and generally being histrionic, I had to turn down the tv volume.

That huge excavator or one like it) could have been the one I saw on a flat-bed truck heading south on I-85 early this week. I thought at the time that it was most likely heading for NO.

Michael Chertoff just gave a presser and some reporter kept asking "do you have a body count?" Does this reporter not have an ounce of feeling for the "bodies" and relatives of the "bodies" and American neighbors of these "bodies" that he is so callously querying. Am I being super sensitive. I think he could have asked "Do you have a number of the dead" instead.

"Landrieu just said Bush came for a photo op"
I noticed she had her mug right in there w him. It was also the only time that the Gov visited NO. Gads, earlier in the week the press and others were ragging on the Prez for not going down there (as I recall, he wanted to go but the SS wouldn't let him because Landieu's constituents were shooting at rescuers). She's a slimeball.

Then what do they say when they mean Calvary and not cavalry?

I give you credit for watching. After the past few days I can't take any more. I'm at the breaking point and had to switch to HGTV.
To: mariabush
Landrieu crying on national TV in the helicopter, and Blanco's pitiful performance all through this, will reinforce the mindest of many that a female is not capable of being president. Tough for Hillary. and Geena Davis' new show will really reinforce that image..

That Homeland Security check was used to replace an antiquated existing communications system. Little or none of it was used to 'retool' in order to handle a massive, terrorist attack.
We had 'appointed officials' in MA buying huge, plasma TV's with that 'friggin money!

In neighboring Jefferson Parish, Parish President Aaron Broussard said, "I'm expecting that some people who are die-hards will die hard."

Probably not a smart move for her to try. Secret Service doesn't like stuff like that. But it would make for great television.
