I'm not positive on this but I think Bush and the Congressional Republicans want to keep the status quo. Putting Gonzales and Roberts on the court would be about the same as Rehnquist and O'Connor. Bush knows that if Roe V. Wade is overturned, the Republicans will lose the Northeast and all the pro-choice country club Republicans. I don't think the pro-life Democrats would go anywhere because the ones who were very deeply pro-life one issue voters became Republicans.

It's my understanding that if Roe v Wade were overturned, the issue would go back to the states. Congressman Billybob, I'm pinging you on this one, as to exactly what that would entail.
