There's a Post with a link to the AP story right here on FR. Look under my keyword seach "busted". There's also another Thread today on here from CNN that shows the Governors press conference from Sunday. I actually watched it and watched her say it...but you can find it under today's new postings. Most of this has been posted within the last two days. I'd find them for you but I'm running out the door right now.

In 1992, when Andrew hit South Florida, our governor was Lawton Chiles, a loveable oaf demonrat (loveable to the media anyway) and the mayor of Miami was a demonrat woman whose name I forget. It took 4 days for FEMA to respond, and the mayor of Miami was crying and wailing "Where is the cavalry". The whole thing was eerily like Katrina (with the roles of governor and mayor reversed).

When Jeb Bush was elected, one of his first priorities was setting up PLANNING commissions (for future state power needs, for handling hurricane emergencies, etc.) When Charley hit in 2004, Jeb stated that our worst scenario had occurred; a hurricane bisecting the state south to north...but that scenario HAD BEEN PLANNED FOR. Things did not go perfectly, but they went very smoothly compared to Andrew.

Which brings me to our "loveable" oaf demonrats in Louisiana...WHERE WAS THE PLANNING???

"Imagine the situation on the ground if Jeb and Rudy were in charge five days before the storm hit".

My sister - also a New Yorker and a democrat, has always blasted the praise Rudy got after 9/11 and said he didn't do anything different than any other mayor would have. I always replied that Rudy did everything a lot better! I doubt that this has changed her mind at all.

I hope the democrats are proud of themselves for teaching these people that they are completely helpless without the federal government's help! It certainly shows. Who will step up to the plate and say so?

Bring it.

Are you seriously comparing the actions of the mayor of arguably the richest city on the planet to handle a tragedy that impacted, what, lower Manhattan to the mayor of one of the poorest mid-level cities in the country that had city-wide issues to deal with---deaths occurring in areas throughout the city on a rolling basis over days, not over a more compact period like Giuliani did?

Granted, what happened in New York was tragic, but comparing the two as you are is comparing apples and oranges. Besides, when you run the most affluent city in the world, state and national politicians answer, "how high?" when you say "Jump." during a crisis.

Point blame at Kathleen Blanco and FEMA, sure, but how Ray Nagin could have changed the course of events much over the past 6 days is very unclear to me.

If I voted in New Orleans or Louisiana, I would be looking at ways to initiate referendums asking the both the governor and the mayor to resign. If they refused to resign, I would begin initiating efforts aimed at recall or impeachment. There are months to years of rebuilding ahead that are still going to require substantial leadership for the City and the State. These two individuals have clearly demonstrated their incompetence to lead or organize.

Where is the "10 hours" coming from, exactly? People were told to get out of town at least 60 hours before landfall.

It's not like City of New Orleans officials were telling people in the still-unblemished Twin Tower on 9/11 to "stay where they are and not evacuate the building" after the first tower was struck...oh, sorry, you New Yorkers are above reproach and cannot be questioned, right?

I think you need to save this and send this after this whole mess is calmed down. It's all good. We'll need to know how things REALLY went wrong as the media will continue to play the Bush blame game well into the '06 election cycle.

And .. I believe Jeb was prepared for 2 storms within 2 weeks of each other.

When FEMA called and said, "what do you need" - Jeb was ready with his list and it happened.

GOVERNOR Blanco DID NOTHING!!! but go on TV and shed tears. Good grief! We CANNOT BE SO STUPID AS TO ALLOW THESE PEOPLE TO BE IN CHARGE OF NATIONAL SECURITY.

Q."How is it that Jeb Bush can prepare in advance and evacuate millions for four Hurricanes while Kathleen
Blanco prepares next to nothing?"
A. Jeb Bush is a Guild Navigator.

Q.How is it that Rudy Giuliani can gain control of downtown New York on 9/11 while Ray Gavin tells
people to evacuate 10 hours before the storm hits and lets looting run rampant after it passes?
A.Rudy Giuliani is a Jedi Knight

The other two are just morons.

And, as well, the mayor and Governor in Oklahoma stepped up magnificently after the OKC bombing.

Bullseye!!!!!!!!! George HW Bush lost the relection to Clintoon for his handling over Hurricane Andrew in 1992. It was Florida DimocRat Govenor Chiles who never evacuated, asked the NG, or reacted to the storm. He sat and sucked his thumb, spit chew, and scratched his head for a couple days.

By the time he asked the feds for help, it was too late. FEMA and the response team took 2 extra days to arrive and people were going insane and desperate (actually we were behaving quite civilized, even ladylike by NOLA standards.)

The democrats blamed it all on Bush. This Katrina howl is now a repeat performance from their old playbook and it will work to damage all Republicans if YOU let this happen.

In front of me sits the pull-out 2 page flyer on Hurricane Preparedness the newspaper includes nearly every weekend. I suspect that the NOLA citizens and their leaders have been using their Storm Guide Warnings as as butt wipes.

Alright, nitwit, here's a partial list:

(1) He could have used the school busses in Lake Nagin to evacuate the poor from NO before the hurricane hit, stored the busses in a safe place afterwards, and used them to evacuate the Superdome and Convention Center instead of doing nothing but crying for help while he was careful not to exercise his own initiative.

(2) When the looting and lawlessness began on Monday he could have ordered the NO PD to use lethal force, if necessary to stop it.

(3) He could have arranged for water tanks and other water containers to be placed at the Superdome and Convention Center and filled from the taps there while the water was still running before the storm hit.

(4) He could have arranged for porta-johns to be placed in adequate numbers at both places so people wouldn't be wallowing in their own filth after the toilets broke down.

(5) He could have had adequate police at both places to prevent the rapes, thefts, robberies, and murders that occurred.

(6) He could have demanded that Governor Blanco (appropriate name, as in blank mind) bring the National Guard in on Monday with orders to shoot to kill looters.

(7) When the DemonRat LA AG issued a statement justifying the looting, the audio of which was played on Fox News, he could have denounced that remark, instead of acquiescing in it.

(8) He could have arranged to have some emergency authorities on I-10 where people were congregating to give them instructions on where to go.

(9) He could have had a few municipal vehicles on I-10 providing water to the refugees and picking up the ones who were too infirm to stay there.

Many other people on this thread can probably give you some additional ideas.

Yeah, I've heard of Chiles. I'm from Florida. I'm not sure what your point is, though.
