"...and they don't vote, either"
- I was watching the movie "starship troopers" the other day and despite the movie being mostly hokey and dumb, there was one part that caught my attention. There was a legal and personal rights destinction made between civilian and citizen. To become a citizen was a great honor and very hard process that demanded a high level of commitment and proficiency but was rewarded with rights and opportunities that ordinary civilians didn't have.
I began thinking that a system like this might not be a bad idea.
Robert A. Heinlein sucking you in?
I have enjoyed Heinlein since I was a teenager in the 50's.
His later works are senile rambling with no editor in sight, but the early works are good.
I sent Tunnel in the Sky to several units in Iraq.
