Black Democrats in Congress and civil rights leaders yesterday accused the Bush administration of incompetence and a lack of compassion for blacks in response to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
"Many of these Americans who now are struggling to survive are Americans of color," Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Maryland Democrat, said. "Their cries for assistance confront America with a test of our moral compass as a nation."
He quoted the admonition of Christ to feed the hungry and clothe the naked, and said: "To the president of the United States, I simply say that God cannot be pleased with our response."
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the highest-ranking black member of the administration, rejected the suggestion of racism in the government's response.
"That Americans would somehow in a color-affected way decide who to help and who not to help -- I just don't believe it," she said. "Americans are generous to each other, and I think you're seeing that people are opening their homes to people who are displaced and have had to be evacuated."
Black leaders at a press conference in Washington criticized news coverage they said has depicted blacks in New Orleans as looters and refugees.
"We cannot allow ourselves to see only the black faces doing the looting and not see the homeowners, the families, the children who have lost everything," said Dorothy I. Height, president emeritus of the National Council of Negro Women.
Mr. Cummings objected to the use of the term "refugees," which news organizations have applied to both whites and blacks left homeless by the storm. Dictionaries typically define "refugee" as "one who flees for safety, especially to a foreign country."
"I hate the term refugees," he said. "Americans are dying, not refugees. ...

The biggest fear that guys like JJ, the Black Caucus and Sharpton have is the day Blacks finally break free and don't need them anymore. These guys talk about equality but the only way they can remain in power is to convince that Black people that they are not.

It's laughable...if the guy was part of the Poynter Institute...he's a lib. So the Black Caucus is even upset at what the liberals are saying? I heard the guy on BOR say that he was upset because they're calling them "refugees" to which Bill noted they're calling black and white people refugees.
Truth is NO is something like 68 percent black.
Black people are being rescued by the hordes, but at the same time, the ones that are having to wait long times are blacks.
I hardly see any whites in the pictures coming out of NO...that's just a logistical fact due to demographics of the city.
But the American people aren't stupid, and they see white person after white person, helping these people, and it destroys the myth that there is "racial bias"...pictures and actions speak louder than words. (BTW anybody see any members of the Black Caucus down there wading through the water to hand out an MRE or at a Red Cross Shelter...heck no.)
But…but…the Black Congressmen are huddled because they really care about the abused African/Americans! President Bush hugs because he’s a politician. < / extreme barfing sarcasm>

Thus the perpetual change of "talking points" when it comes to liberal politicians.
Cummings is bad news. He is in bed with the enemies of America. He lacks understanding of Constitutional responsibilities - fails repeatedly to recognize that states are primarily responsible as first responders, and BEFORE federal help should even be requested. He provokes racial hostility toward the white community and against the administration. He charges whites with racism but overlooks that the looting was done by one racial group, that the shooting at ambulances and fire-trucks was done by one racial group. Mr. Cummings should get the facts before he speaks.
Yeah. I see they've rolled up their sleeves and are out helping victims. What a bunch of phonies. They don't want to catch an earfull. They hide in Washington.
LOL. Yeh, my mother and I (I was 16) were sitting there watching Ruby do his "patriotic" thing in the garage, and my mom said............. Oswald was a patsy, indeed.
Rep. Cummings and his ilk will continue and help sink the Democratic Party.
As RUSH said on his program , how come the Democrats were able to bus all of these people to the voting both last year ? but, were not able to bus these people out well before the hurricane ?

In a city with so many residents living in poverty, the hurricane came at the worst possible time: the end of the month, when those depending on public assistance are waiting for their next checks to be mailed on the first of the month. Without the checks, many residents didn't have money for gasoline, bus fare or lodging.
It seems that if only the hurricane had come a week later there wouldn't be any need for all this name calling.
Normal Demoncrat/Communist party line ala Pravda. Keep the blacks in the ghetto, they say secretly, so we'll still have a constituency. Keep them on the Federal dole and make them completely dependent on the Federal Government until they say, "Mine eyes look unto Wahington, from whence cometh my help!".
Then, if anything goes wrong, blame the Republicans. Or big oil. Or pharaceuticals. Propaganda is holding the day.
Democrats only care about blacks when it's time to vote.
