Not excusing for the incompetent leadership of the mayor and governor, but it is not fair to compair the scope of 9/11 to the hurricane. 9/11 was confined to a few square blocks..and the rest of the surrounding infrastructure was left intact. Rescue/relief workers could drive to within a few blocks of thir drop off points....in the Gulf area, 90,000 square miles have been wiped out...

nagin should have taken care of his people and evacuated them when he ha the chance.

HE HAD PLENTY OF WARNING (72 HOURS).

The Feds had to call this moron and make him evacuate people.

I don't know when it was recorded but CNN keeps replaying it so it had to be within the last, say 12 hours.

As the Mayor of New Orleans should he have not made arrangements for buses to be on standby BEFORE the storm! Oh I forgot, NO is a Welfare project, ie run my Democrats.

" Do you want to point out ANYWHERE where I said they 'deserve' it."

I'm not going to searc, but I trust that you never wrote anything like that, but the tone of many posts has been upsetting for me.

My sympathy is with the people down there. The mayor is one of the people. People attacking him because he is tired, cursing, angry. I don't think that's on.

But apologies for any offence.

RUDY RUDY RUDY where are you now

Rudy is not obsessed with whether somebody puts his willie in the right hole, so he just won't do for some of the folks here.

When this Mayor declared the 'State of Emergency', he stated that except for... the essential press...?

Everyone should have been evacuated. The words essential and press are mutually exclusive! Most of the reporters looked like idiots trying to stand in the wind driven pouring rain. Not a very good example for the sheeple that the government was trying to protect!

"Now he's talking about the drug problem in NO and how there are drug addicts wondering the city and breaking into the hospitals"

A side effect to this disaster is that is has become the world's largest drug rehab program. Can you imagine the number of crack addicts that made it to the Superdome and had no fix?

I don't care for some of Rudy's views or behaviors, but I have to hand it to the man he knows how to run a city and a crisis.

This mayor has just seen his political career implode!

He laid it right on the Governor - called for a maratorium on press conferences. It is all on Blanco yo make a formal request to the President. But, she cannot seem to stop crying.

Did just hear on NPR she has instructed NG to shoot to kill looters. WEll, that's something

Why didn't he have schools buses prowling the neighborhoods evacuating people with no cars? Why didn't he drop leaflets around the city with directions to shelters?

As much as I hate to defend this incompetent jerk, I can't let your questions slide by without critical comment. You can't have school buses prowing the neighborhoods when the nieghboorhoods are under 4 to 10 feet of water or more and road conditions prohibit drivers from getting to the buses and then getting the buses out on the streets. I assume you mean dropping leaflets around the city before the storm hit because dropping them when the city is under water is a waste of resources.

You and many other people are forgetting the NOLA survived Katrina relatively well, with only minor to moderate damage and some flooding that was being processed as usual by the levy/pump system. The levies broke at 2:00 a.m. in the morning, 12 hours after Katrina had cleared the area. I suspect that many people may have already left the shelters and gone back home. By the time theyt realize what had happened they were trapped.

Everybody's sympathy is with the folks with few exceptions but this man and the givernor have probably resulted in hundreds or thousands of additional dead.

From not preparing to not acting afterward to being in the way. I am watching, like you, kids dying from heat exhaustion on TV. Rapes and murders (including child rape). If you stand up and tell people to go to a location, wouldn't you want security for 20K desperate people?

This interview demonstrates how he was directly responsible for the deaths of a lot of people. Take out the preparation issue and he is still responsible. My criticism is valid.

Don't get me started on Blanco, but it is curious that Mississippi and Alabama are under control without federal troops. Maybe because the Governors in those two states don't play!

Yes, if you want to know how to run hurricane recovery, Ask Jeb!

The Dems here in Florida hate him, but Jeb has never let them or their families down before, during or after a hurricane...

And he did it 4 times in 2004 and again this year.

Uh, yeah. But what are you going to do? Frog march 'em out at gunpoint?

So rather than take food and water you'd have families obey the law and die? Because that's whate you're saying.

I don't think anyone with a lick of sense would suggest that the Jean Valjean option was called for in this case, but Nagin's words and tone were certainly not what was needed at the time. If we are sentient adults, we have the ability - some more, some less - to determine who needs help and who is descending into barbarity.

As far as "feeling dirty" goes, there are a bunch of people in N.O. and the MSM who should feel dirty, but their senses of entitlement and/or superiority won't allow it.

To All,
Marshal Law should be declared. Use troops to enforce it. Enough is enough. The FAILURE of the mayor to do his JOB and the FAILURE of the governor to do her job is the REAL national disgrace!!!
