Guess you missed the hundreds of news reports that explained about those "poor unfortunate people". Apparently many of them are "poor, unforunate people" who could not evacuate. No transportation, no money, etc. It was all over the news before Katrina even hit and since then as well. And of course there's the old folks, hospital patients, and newborn babies. Dang it, guess they just didn't get their acts together.
Having stayed and survived a major hurricane myself, Hurricane Hugo, I was willing to accept personal responsibility for my decision and rely on myself for my survival. Those Katrina survivors who could have left but chose to stay must also accept some of the responsibility for their decision.
Even though I know they made the wrong decision, I have sent money to help and will send more money in the future.
My wife has aunts, uncles & cousins in New Orleans and we haven't been able to find out if they are alive or dead. We will offer to let them stay in our home if we can get in touch with them. We wouldn't be going through this torment if they had evacuated.
Again, I'm sorry.
I will be one to say they were let down. I've seen the pictures of the unused and neatly parked buses. I can see where people are being housed away from the mess NOW. Don't tell me they had not the means to go and nowhere to be. That is BS! This may have to be excused this time but it better not happen again.
Not directed at you personaly, end rant for now.
