In the late 70s Patti Smith attacked Debby Boone at a party saying "You don't represent rock and roll." I mean she physically attacked her with screaming and everything. Patti Smith had a small hit later entitled "Because the Night" and for that she got invited on some musical TV special. They had her sing "You light up my Life." It was great. You may or may not like Debby Boone, but she's a good conservative, and she always had been. That's part of the reason Patti Smith didn't like her
