I know this is tiny tiny potatoes, but I'm hosting my MIL's estate sale this weekend. I had my niece make a sign for a really big jug to take contributions for the Salvation Army. I'm telling y'all about this to show you that no matter how small your contribution, it all will help.
Also, I heard on NPR yesterday some guy from a refugee center telling the talking head about clothing donations. He said a lot of folks wonder what happens to the clothes we donate. He said those clothes are golden to people who left their homes with a pillow, blanket and what they were wearing. Clothes with elastic are very popular...it's one size fits all.
Even tho Red Cross and Fema say they just want $$$....where are they going to spend it? I saw the SuperKMart in Biloxi...they need a major clean-up on ALL aisles! I wonder what the address for the Astro Dome is? :)

(only insiders knew about the AK-monkey-pumpers smack-down.)
Snort. Greta Van Sustren just declared the Astrodome (yes I mean Astro) a disaster area and a powder keg just waiting to go off. I guess the Geraldo set is already laying the groundwork for the next "big" story. Why do I get the feeling that even if all the folks from New Orleans were given million dollar bank accounts and estates in Switzerland the press will be lamenting about how "...and NOBODY is telling them what to do!"

Marvelous post to remind us all that no effort is too small.
Thank you!

Clothing donations are not a good idea. You have to sort and store and they get trashed and rained on etc. Money and your time are the best things you can give. Our Republican Women's club spent many hours in one of the worst hit areas of Hurricane Charlie last August. We worked with the Catholic Church in Wauchula and we did bring hot food, soda, water, and detergents, mops, brooms, paper towels etc. We took up collections and then hit the Dollar STores.

Even tho Red Cross and Fema say they just want $$$....where are they going to spend it? I saw an interview with a local (so-Calif) Red cross big wig, he was asked the same thing why they didn't want cloths etc.. his answer was they have the infrastructure in place to buy every thing that the people will need
how sweet the red cross know best!! and us plane fokes don't' know anything.. but the salvation army canteen trucks were out, but the red cross has their hand out.

Take it easy on the Red Cross. The International organization stinks, but you can not say that all of its domestic operations are a joke. Houston's RC is now putting up 4,000 folks from NO in their shelters in Houston. With all the hotels full they are taking in anyone who needs a place to sleep and food. They may be there a long time given the conditions in NO and elsewhere on the Gulf coast.
