"The president and government who had a week's advance notice of Katrina, yet managed to completely botch it'

Explain precisely how The Feds Botched it?

They prepositioned all there assets.

The State government waited to start the evacuation and then thought they dodged a bullet because the storm swung east. Then the levees broke and they tried to play catchup and lost all there communications to the flood. So when the Feds are ready to fully roll in there is NO system in place for them to supplement (you know the way FEMA is designed to work) Please explain how the FEDS failed when it was the State government that got caught flat footed.

AMEN!!

The State, the Mayor or LA Governor should have ordered along with the evacuation order that the police evacuate equipment and buses (for those not leaving) to high-ground as a safety measure for a couple of measures. NOT THE FEDS' FAULT OR the PRESIDENT's. Or was none of this done because these crooks knew the American people would step in and let them off the hook while they scramble to look good.

They prepositioned all there assets.

I don't think anyone prepositioned enough assets to deal with the flooding of New Orleans, yet we've all been aware that a major hurricane would sink the city, especially in light of Ivan's near-miss last year.

I agree. And to really get down to it, it is not the Feds role, to deal with evacuations and issuing such orders, nor to set up a grid of safe shelters, a REAL plan to be used in such an emergency as the one that occurred. Only if the local or state asks for help, will the Feds step in. FEMA is technically a post recovery org, so they would have nothing to do with initial shelter set-up. I think the entire picture was not accurately painted to the Feds once the local and state asked for help, and that they botched it.

Fox just now talking about how the evacuees do not want to be called refugees...a point made here several times...
