There is no home to go back to!!!!!!!!!
I am sorry I assumed in the post that most people would come back. I originally wrote in the post, pre-edited, that "even after folks return to their home, if still standing." I took the last words out because I did not wish to discourage anyone with a glib comment. I probably should have been more honest about the situation. To be sure many homes are not habitable and never will be. The devastation south of New Orleans is horrible. In coastal St. Bernard's Parish 40,000 homes were completely under water. Five people who stayed at the top of a local hotel saw nothing but water and a few rooftop peaks all around for miles. It took a miraculous effort to get them out to safety. That area is probably never going to come back to life anytime soon. The coastal area south of NO has been eroding for years, not helped by the levees protecting NO from the sea and the mighty Mississippi River. The levees and canals in NO and upriver are preventing the normal flow of silt and sand to form in the delta area and thus the erosion continues unabated.
Prayers up for everyone in Katrina's path.
