A simple idea that could have saved a lot of time and confusion and perhaps encouraged more people to actually leave.

It would have also been nice since the area is so heavy with tourists that evacuation routes would have been clearly marked as well. And for those tourists in the area, evacs for them as well would have been a fine idea.

I hope someone from Homeland Security is reading this board and actually writing down some of this stuff.

I was thinking they could have even had parish evacuation posts printed in the front of phone books with other emergency information, with basic maps of the evacuation locations. That way even tourists could be told easily to refer to something -- their hotel room phone book -- and know where to go if they needed help during an evacuation emergency.
