That is not Bush's fault. Those buses should have been part of the city and state plan.
If they had started the evacuation of NO 24 hours earlier, those buses would probably have been available for moving some people out of harms way.
I thought that was what he was saying...that the City and State officials had no excuse.
Although WWL-TV appeared to have signed off the air, I'm still picking up transmission from WWL via a cable feed on KWCE, a low-power UPN station in Alexandria.
The newscasters in WWL are now reporting that people were evacuated from the roof of the American Can Company to the airport in Kenner, and from there they were put on a plane to Houston.
Plane evacuations are a great sign!!
Oh, they will find someway to blame it on him. Can you believe all the things this president has had to deal with? God brings us thru each time though.
The buses were discussed in an article by the Times Picayune called Washed Away..they said somthing like when they used them one time only 5 of 25 drivers showed up..Apparently they took no action to insure more would show up (like hazard pay incentive or drive em or your fired) or to at least make sure the buses were fueled up and on high ground..heck the people could have driven them out (apparently one did)...total incompetence of management...no excuses.
I agree with you. The President did all he could do way ahead of time, including the (AFAIK) unprecedented action of declaring a disaster area before it actually happened. Even then, the mayor and governor didn't take that slap in the face hint. He had to actually talk to them.
Did you hear the Louisiana Sec. of Homeland Security on FNC earlier? I don't remember the show, maybe O'Reilly's. Anyway, the question was posed if he thought they were behind the curve in being prepared for this disaster. With a nonchalant attitude, to paraphrase he answered, "Yes I guess we were. But we're catching up."
I still cannot fathom the actions, or rather, inactions on the part of LA government. It boggles the mind.
