Sadly "Snowball" would require resources that could keep a human being alive. Harsh reality will strenghten this child. This is definately not the time in these devastated areas to go wobbly on whether animals or humans live. Once things have stabilized, other puppies will be around. Nothing replaces a human life. Ever.

There are babies dying. Snowball can be replaced.

I hear what you're saying, I'm thinking more about the child's emotions and pain than the actual life of the animal. Sometimes one thing can be the straw that breaks a camel's back in a traumatic situation, and that might have been the last straw for that child.

And a traumatized child is denied comfort that would most certainly have helped.

There are organizations devoted exclusively to animal assistance during disasters, and hopefully they are being allowed to be part of the relief effort.

Sadly, this little boy may never get over this... it was a small dog and he could have held it on his lap.. we watched video of other people boarding buses with small dogs... this little boy met the wrong cop.

While you are absolutely correct, that nothing will replace a human life, your post was rather callous don't you think??

Nothing will replace one of my dogs lives either. Perhaps you just have never known the love of a great dog.

When my parents divorced we moved to a large city. My Mom dumped my dog. A few months ago she remarked, " It's been 35 years now. How much longer are you going to hold this against me?. Have you thought about letting this go?" She told me if of all the things she could change, that this was #1. Good:')
