All day she told us that she had NO under perfect control...even complained that we would question her.
~LOL~ ain't that the truth!
I think this is the ship they had on the news the other day..the captain (commander) was a woman Nora something..she spoke with authority and knowledge and seemed to me she knew her job and would carry it out well....something like 6 rescue copters and 2 larger copters and one smalll landing craft that could carry supplies and fuel into needed areas...
"Totally off topic, but what did Fox just say about Sen. Robert K-K-K Byrd?"
"He is donating bedsheets to the victims. Some of the sheets may have holes."
HHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
why not get a ham radio and license instead. A lot cheaper
Why isn't more of this being reported in the news?
New Orleans is a ship without a rudder...the Governor etc. should be removed from office along with the Chief Of Police and anyone working in a state office responsible for disaster planning...this potential threat was known to exist for at least the last 40 years...
Heh.
:)
Mountaineers use them frequently. IIRC the unit goes for $1500, and the service is $5 per minute.
Immarsat makes them, and I don't know if the older Iridiums are still available or will still work with the system.
***something like 6 rescue copters and 2 larger copters and one smalll landing craft that could carry supplies and fuel into needed areas***
Perfect for operating in the remote areas of the Delta...
People forget that the coverage area for this is HUGE! And it just isn't New Orleans.
I just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth.
It seems that every liberal I have ever met supports building codes to prevent poor ignorant people from building ramshackle homes and trying to live in them. It seems to me that we need a federal building code that will prevent people from siting cities within 20 miles of the coast that are less than 20 feet above sea level.
This code should prevent siting new cities and well as re-building ones that have beeen destroyed by mother nature.
My heart goes out to all the citizens of New Orleans and I support providing assistance to each and every one of them who needs it to relocate to a safe city.
But for the American taxpayer to pay to rebuild the city of New Orleans in the current location would only compound the tragedy Mother nature has wrought.
In light of all the predictions of liberals that global warming is going to raise the sea levels around the glode, we need this new "building code" right away.
If this post seems harsh or mean spirited, please use your head and realize that the meanest thing we could do to another generation is to build cities in locations like New Orleans.
Who do we owe the site of New Orleans? The French. And we know the wisdom of the French.
Best Wishes,
It was on the news this morning a gun was taken away from a NG he was shot in the leg and medivaced out. the perp was arrested and in jail. Also tonight one elderley man said he was not searched going in...
Go Navy!
I was thinking they could have even had parish evacuation posts printed in the front of phone books with other emergency information, with basic maps of the evacuation locations. That way even tourists could be told easily to refer to something -- their hotel room phone book -- and know where to go if they needed help during an evacuation emergency.
It is already turning around. Instead of hearing shots fired all night, we are hearing about arrests.
I would not be surprised to see a lot less people waiting around tomorrow.....operations continuing all night long....
This is only known through Census Surveys, as a aside to all the "Asking any questions other than how many people live here violates the Constitution" types, and is a critical factor to evacuation planning for any part of the country.

11:41 P.M. - (AP): After accepting more than 11,000 Hurricane Katrina refugees, officials said the Astrodome was full and began sending buses to other shelters in the Houston area Thursday night.
"We've actually reached capacity for the safety and comfort of the people inside there," American Red Cross spokeswoman Dana Allen said. She said people were "packed pretty tight" on the floor of the Astrodome.
Buses that continued to arrive were being sent on to other shelters in the area and as far away as Huntsville, about an hour north of Houston.
"We're asking that people be patient. Ultimately they are going to be comfortable," Allen said.
The total of 11,375 inside the Astrodome was less than half the estimated 23,000 people who were expected to arrive by bus from New Orleans in Houston.
11:29 P.M. - (AP): Col. Henry Whitehorn, chief of the Louisiana State Police, said he heard of numerous instances of New Orleans police officers - many of whom from flooded areas - turning in their badges.
"They indicated that they had lost everything and didn't feel that it was worth them going back to take fire from looters and losing their lives," Whitehorn said.
11:08 P.M. - CNN reports that the Astrodome in Houston has shut its doors and will no longer accept refugees.
10:49 P.M. - (AP): Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco declared war on looters as 300 National Guard troops landed in New Orleans fresh from duty in Iraq. "These troops know how to shoot and kill, and they are more than willing to do so, and I expect they will," she said.
Someone posted that we should submit a warranty claim to France.
