Ever been to New York? It's amazing what all is run by the mob. One reason things are so expensive.

Why is it so logistically hard to load up some C-130's with water and food, and parachute it in by the Super Dome?

.......

Because the super dome has a "domed" roof covering the field and is surrounded by water and mob rule outside of it. That's why.

"Why are they not all Clarence Thomases or looters?"

Clarence didn't listen to rap music.

Thanks. I would find it hard to kill someone for a TV. Shooting the arms that are carrying the TV would prevent them from getting away with it. Just kidding.

I can see there is a little anger here. It would be nice for FReepers to be civil to each other rather than being insulting. You know who you are. :)

I'm disappointed that help for these poor people did not get there sooner. Local and state officials should have had enough of an emergency game plan together to get help within 24 hours. Perhaps they didn't count on the violence, but they certainly should have expected it. They know their city.

From this, I suspect that every city will be working on new plans that will address what went wrong here. Everyone should have a plan for evacuation if they don't have money or a car.

It is unimaginable to think what would happen if a chemical, nuclear, or biological attack took place in one city or multiple cities. They really could take down the economy and cause a worldwide economic collapse.

you dredge the lake and the river bed, and use that as the fill.

Not knowing, may be dumb, but what about a PayPal account for those of us further away that want to make sure minimal $$ go where they should (I signed off on a couple major "charities" a while ago).

Buickmackane mentioned school uniforms earlier on. It would make their young lives easier dealing with some sort of norm while adults deal with the major task at hand.

Thoughts, heart and prayers to all in the area.

Hon, I'm not sure you understand some of the posts above.

Which part of the hurricane was still moving through the state of Mississippi at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning don't you understand?

Well, in some better news on the Democratic side, when they had the short session in the Senate earlier tonight, Reid said that he supported Bush in this effort, and Schumer didn't politicize the thing. I'll take that as a miracle.

This is a really dumb question.
Why are we not setting up semi-perm tent type barracks for these people at a underutilized location somewhere?
Provide medical, schooling for kids, community college classes for adults, movies at night. All in a semi military style environment?

Why take them to trash a sports arena?

The tent thing could be set up just as quickly.

This is long term, we are probably supporting them anyway, lets do it right and have a controlled situation,

"If the people die in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma they can keep from counting them as hurricane victims... especially if the coronor lists the death as heart attack, etc."

With all due respect, do you really think that will have ANY impact WHATSOEVER on the total number? And if so, to what end?

Blanco "engineered" the violence. I am convinced the DNC told her go go soft on maintaining civil order to make the relief efforts much harder, to tar Bush with it.

try and get through to Levin again and discuss this with him, talk radio has got to start hitting back.

***Why is it so logistically hard to load up some C-130's with water and food, and parachute it in by the Super Dome?***

Superdome HAS food and water!

Also... Who gets sued when the 24 people get crushed by the Air-drop, or die in the stampede for goods, and the shootings after the gangs get control of it??

THINK for a second! You have POLICY WONKS in charge, and PC/Anti-lawsuit mode is in full effect!

THIS is what 30 years of PC and liberalism is buying us...

Well....Memphis has an empty "PYRAMID" but we'd have to kick out the Hollywood movie makers that are currenly contracting it's usage.

I'd rather house evacuees than Hollywood personally....but Hollywood is a paying customer so they will probably stay. :(

Well duh I do not want it on top of the dome! I have seen the open parking lots with all the cop cars, and the chopper land zones.. This is not that hard folks. I thought we had precession equipment here.

The police could not communicate with the firefighters on 911 IIRC..I believe one problem is not having compatible equipment..

In addition, there was the FD and PD cultures did not encourage communication. Apparently this was nothing new. I'm in a doctoral program in information science and there are already academic studies being done about 9/11 as an example of how inter-related organizations that should communicate freely w/each other, don't. The easy fix is the technology. The hard part is changing the organizational culture.
