the prevailing attitude of the people in NO is "hep me...hep me"...

I watched Foxnews last night. There was video of people in Houston and NO demanding assistance. Demanding shelter, ice, water, etc.

Whatever happened to helping yourself? Particularly if you're able bodied enough to drive from N.O. to Houston....

It would be good, I think, to help those that need it - the infirm, the disabled, the injured, etc. I'd even go so far as to add in those that are trapped by flooding - it's not easy to get out when you're on a roof surrounded by 15' of water. Limiting assistance to these people in desperate need would simplify issues enormously.

However, if you're on dry land, with a full complement of limbs and faculties and the ability to use them...I've little sympathy if you can't figure out a way out. It's been days - I wonder if these people considered walking out? Get out to a shelter, or a church. IMHO, if you're able enough to stand in front of a camera railing about how much help you need - then you don't need much help.

Yes, but at this point its time for the incompetent local disaster response folks to get in gear and deliver the food, water, and evacuation they promised. Many of the angry people sitting on the side of the road without water or food in 90 degree heat did what the government told them to do - they went to the convention center where they were told they would be evacuated. And instead they are sitting there.

Using the excuse of some armed people, crime and a few gunshots to stop rescue operations is silly - people deal with that kind of thing all the time in major cities like New Orleans. Since when do the police give up because somebody fired a gun? In New Orleans??? That's ridiculous.

Its well and good to say everyone should take care of themselves, and for many of those folks that's all they can do now. But then you have to accept that they needed to break down the doors into the kitchen area and seize the food, and that doing so was OK. The next step is probably to obtain running vehicles to evacuate in -- and that might be pretty ugly. So the concept of "everyone for himself" is OK, as a plan B, but I'd much rather see an orderly disaster response and evacuation. And in order for that to happen you need organization, courage and leadership. All of which seem to be lacking among the government leaders of New Orleans and Louisiana.

Its time for action by the governmental folks responsible for the evacuation, not excuses.

I knew this was coming. I understand that 9/11 was a act of terrorism and I dont wish the debate the right or wrong of the giveaway. Nonetheless now everyone in NO is going to expect a car, money and a home.

The dim sinawhore has already been screaming that LA better get more money then NY. The libs the dims and the MSM will cry racism as the only reason Bush wont give each of them a million dollars.

It's also a shallow cry if they complain about not getting help , when they have enough energy to loot for TV sets, loads upon loads of Tennis shoes, and DVD players.
