The point that you seem to be missing is that you're the one who jumped on the fact that the perp's ethnicity was mentioned .. and you assumed racism was involved.
I'm not the only one making that very rational assumption. What's the purpose of mentioning race?
I don't know ... for me, it didn't matter one way or the other. Then again, I'm not the one making the assumption that mentioning race is an indication that that one thinks race is relevant to behavior:
