"And they would be walking to where .... 2 days and 60 - 70 miles down the road, no food or water ...you're absolutely brilliant doc, don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise."
Well, from what I can tell, there is no food or drinkable water in New Orleans either. The difference being if you are 60-70 miles further north, (1) you aren't under threat of drowning or (2) being shot and (3) authorities aren't having to expend resources rescuing your butt.
It's understandable that folks decide to stick out a hurricane, they've been there, done that. But to impliedly suggest folks living in a place like New Orleans should only leave if its convenient and funded by the government is sad. I don't think sarcastic attacks of freepers are helping anyone.
There's water up to fifteen feet deep between downtown and the two roads going north.
Oh, and let's take a look at thse two roads ... The Ponchetrain Causeway is down and the Twin Span on I-10 is down ... care to tell me how you're planning on going north, on foot - or any other direction for that matter, in these conditions.
