The rest of the state for the most part has changed on a local and regional level. It is not like this all over. My uncle used to say that the only thing he would vote for regarding taxes for NO is for dynamite to blow up the levees.
The state's resources have been funneled there for generations. It's been going to a black hole. I mean last year for example, year the Orleans Parish School board couldn't find 45 million dollars. If they salvage the books of NO they will find the misuse of funds on every level of operation. It's been corrupt for decades.
As far as the voting booth, when is Mary Landrieu up for reelection. Her voting base has just been scattered.
Perhaps this horrific storm will be the beginning of a new way to protect and serve the communities, or parishes, of New Orleans.
