Yeah, I dunno what the situation is, and won't jump to any conclusions. But as to his reputation, well, at times there has been a reason why I sometimes refer to him as 'My Favorite Drama Queen.' But he may have been right on this. Time will tell.
No. I think they were much better off sitting there in the hot sun. It would have made absolutely no sense for them to carry that child the 3000 or so feet to the same Salvation Army rescue center that Shep's counterpart was reporting from. Nevermind that they wouldn't have had to swim across "moats". Nevermind that just a five minute walk away there was water, food, and medical care. They were much better off sitting on the concrete and having Shep yell stupid questions at them from above. I mean, that was some moving reporting. That was some great video. And apparently that is what really matters.
not to some
he said they were taking the generators....
other reports of thugs at hospitals last night too.
i assumed it was dope fiends, but dope fiends rarely reason enough to steal a generator. These are a special breed of thug, stealing the power that keeps people alive...but i must ask, where will the thugs get the diesel to run the generator?
Thanks.
Amen Sister!
looters taking bread, water, food essentials for survival, are not looters.
imagine this. your city or town you live in is hit by a fairly large meteor. one big enough to take out most of the command and control in your town killing thousands. you have limited supply of food and water. what are you going to do? there is a riteaid down the street, no one is obviously going to run a buisness out of it for a long time, clearly. food/milk etc is gonna go to waste. You are getting hungry and your family is too. You kick down the door and take bread, chips, sandwhich meat, jerky, pop, wate etc. Are you a looter? Technically yes. Are you a thief. Probably not.
Now if you go down to the diamond shop and steal you some jewely, that is a different story. Or if you go down to electronics store and steal you a plasma tv, nope. Batteries and a radio, sure that is fine too.
Get the picture? Most of the pictures I saw were of people taking food and juice. That to me is not looting. Some people were indeed being opportunistic and taking luxury items. Those are thieves and should be dealt with as such.
Looting of food should end when proper food aid is setup and distributed.
That's a bunch of C R A P.
It's not partisan.
And it's not racist.
But your post sure sound like liberal talking points.
Try not to be such a drama queen.
Same as they've been doing since Betsy, flooded. An earlier posted pic showed water(also seen on national tv) flowing from the St. Bernard side of the Industrial Canal levee into the Industrial Canal.
Here's a place to ask those who may know: http://www.nola.com/forums/stbtownhall/
I'm not sure of anything. Perhaps they picked up stranded families to give them some cover, or maybe just out of pity. But I did see a news story posted tonight that LA officials couldn't confirm any of the rumors of prisoners being released.
From "the Interdictor" blog..live from NOLA CBD.

Outpost Crystal's Police Officer
More from the Police Officer. I'm typing as fast as i can while he talks to us:
He's only hearing bits and pieces. The people in the city are shooting at the police. They're upset that they're not getting help quickly enough. The fireman keep calling because they're under fire. He doesn't understand why the people are shooting at the rescuers. Here it is 5 days ago the Mayor said get out of town and nobody went and now they're pissed.
The National Guard was at the Hilton, but now the Hilton is evacuated. When they said the CBD was gonna get 6 feet of water, it seems like everyone evacuated.
He turned the corner onto Canal Street and it looked like a flea market. People breaking into every store, going to the neutral gound (median) and trading and selling everything.
They broke into Winn Dixie Monday Night. Do they steal food? No. Cigarettes and liquor. Store was a mess. All the meats were going to waste so the districts went over there to salvage food for officers. Many cops have been eating MREs.
The Iberville Housing Projects got pissed off because the police started to "shop" after they kicked out looters. Then they started shooting at cops. When the cops left, the looters looted everything. There's probably not a grocery left in this city.
Over 30 officers have quit over the last 3 days. Out of 160 officers in his district maybe 55 or 60 are working. He hasn't seen several since Sunday. HQ is closed, evacuated. No phones to contact them.
"HQ, be advised, we're going 10 7."
"Ok, y'all coming back on???"
"We don't know."
All these people are betting that they will survive long enough for the city to be pumped out. Then, they will simply head for Texas or Arkansas and sell the goods. IMO.
You all need to stop that.
Thank you.
I will help anyone, who wants to help himself and there is a lot of people who have suffered through the past few days in the superdome, and the astrodome was designated as a refugee center for those people, not some thugs that decide to steal a bus and head for Texas. They should have joined all the women, children and men in line at the Superdome waiting to be told WHAT center they would be evacuated out to.
"Last time I checked, 1 million people didn't lose their homes Sept. 11th."
Diddle, you're my friend and a fellow Texan. This is not about race or culture. This is about bad behavior.
Those folks in New York made me proud on that awful day four years ago. And they continued to help each other out. My city and culture is less like theirs than that of New Orleans, but I admired the brotherhood they exhibited.
I realize the situation in New Orleans is desperate, but roving gangs with machine guns, hijacking vehicles, shoplifing electronics when the electricity is out, beseiging hospitals and police stations -- that is simple bad behavior, and I am appalled.
I believe that if you'll think about it, you will be, too.
I got the picture....of the looters stealing everything that wasn't bolted down. I guess they were going to eat those shoes and electronics. Silly me.
