. . . it's madness to even consider rebuilding on that spot.

I agree totally. It is like chaulk on the board every time I hear, "we are going to rebuild" with the presumption, "and YOU are GONNA help us!" It is crazy and we taxpayers have no choice in the matter.

Also:
KRBC Abilene just showed an element of the TNG packing up and rolling out. Looks like they are gonna truck it to LA.
Also showed Red Cross and SA trucks loading to follow the first contingent.

Rule Number 1: Be Armed. I can't believe that's a Canadian Tshirt.

I was watching NBC evening news and they showed some tourists wheeling their baggage down the street. They said they felt totally forgotten by authorities, with no info about where to go, no help to get out, etc. Not sure where they were headed at that point. Very sad.

Thanks for posting that; LSU is doing a great job.

As an aside, Pete and Ellen Maravich were/are friends of mine.

As a matter of fact they had some earthquakes out my way in the California Desert this afternoon...

From the usgs website it looks like a swarm of 4+ quakes, right on top of each other. Something brewing out west?

and then let the remainder go back to wetlands.

And who could argue with that? Not the envirowhackos.....they're always screaming about reclaiming wetlands, aren't they?

New 'AWLINS' was a cesspool before this happened and this surprises me not at all.

IT WILL GET WORSE.

God bless the innocents there who have to endure this.

475*50 =23,750 people

To many for even Houston to handle. Hope they're going many places.

yes, what was that all about. why were the police cars parked to cause the buses to not be able to smoothly move up the highway?

That's them. The governor of Texas said they would arrive about 11 p.m. and everyone would be searched for guns and drugs before allowing them inside.

"When Lake Ponchatrain lowers to a more natural level, the levee breaks will allow the flow of water back to the lake thru the canals"

Now someone is coming to a key question I've wondered about. If that long-named lake is open to and drains freely into the Gulf of Mexico, why is it also staying so high? It does have a quite large "drain opening" into the Gulf from my analysis. Is it probable that the big Miss. River is somehow feeding into both the city of New Orleans and the lake as well? Perhaps since Katrina has basically stopped up it's drainage area into the delta? Or am I wrong in saying the lake is in fact high? Can anyone help me understand this?

"Did they use the buses to get people out of the city or to the Super Dome?"

That's a good question, and I'm confused a little, too.

Did they have a plan to use city buses to get the people out of town before Katrina hit, or did they use them to shuttle them to the Super Dome?

Also I heard that the buses had been taken out of service, but I don't know if that is true or not.

I think that is true for the regular buses, which was just plain stupid. However, take a look around this thread. There's a picture of school buses underwater that's been posted several times. Makes you sick to look at it when you think how they could have been used.
