My God if 78,000 people come to Houston the city will never be the same!
You know most of those people will never leave if they are brought to Houston, why would they return? nothing to go back too. This could actually affect the balance of political power in Texas.
importance of contributing cash instead of goods.
And the looters are coming, too.
78,000 includes all those in shelters, not just those that were in the SuperDome.
Please! Thank God for those willing to take in those displaced by this tragedy.
A little food for thought here for everyone who's been saying that we shouldn't rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, that we should just bulldoze it all over and give it back to the snakes and the gators. If all of us "idiots" (to use one of the kinder terms I've seen here) have to go to the "safe" areas because you don't want to pay to rebuild the coastal areas, how will it affec t your life?
The statewide balance of power issue didn't cross my mind, but the first part of your statement did. I bet my mother today that a good chunk of these people on their way to Texas will probably decide to stay. They've got nothing left in Louisiana/New Orleans anyway, that and the sheer fact that Houston is fine and NO barely exists anymore. I'd be very surprised if NO came back as half of what it once was.
They need to only be allowed to stay until the tent cities are set up an then they must be returned to LA. I'm serious. Under no circumstances should they be allowed to leave and hang around Houston.
