I told my husband tonight that the numbers would surpass the World Trade Center. He didn't believe me, and I didn't want to be right, but I don't see how it could turn out to be otherwise.

And my guess of US$1 trillion in economic damage from this storm may end up being an underestimate, too.

We could end up with the greatest death toll since the Galveston tragedy in 1900 and an unprecedented physical destructive toll. It could be a decade or more before Louisana, Alabama and Mississippi recovers from this unfortunate storm....

It doesn't surprise us either. We thought it was going to be bad, but we prayed and prayed that all those who said it wouldn't come close to the numbers from the 9/11 attacks were right. This is awful. Just awful.
