It's old age. The flame wars were considerably hotter -- hot ebough to melt hardened steel -- in the "old days". That's one reason JimRob began applying some light moderation and then moderators on FR.

Threads were regularly hijacked by scrolling text, fancy fonts and colors, tables, backgrounds, music, etc, in the days before JohnRob starting filtering out HTML.

FRiend, disrespect and abuse was worse then -- these threads of the last two years or so are SEDATE almost to boredom compared to the Jungle Wars of old.

I know there have always been flame wars, I just don't remember them being so vicious following this kind of a tragedy. I discount the "interruptions" post 9-11, I suppose, because I remember that those were generally caused by trolls.

Regardless, fwiw, I'm out of it. Back to being the well-mannered Grellis that you've all come to know and love!
