I agree that the prof's comments were not based on what actually happened, but rather on earlier projections, mixed with a little of reality. That being said, the NO disaster evolved the way those who've studied hurricanes thought it would. Water would be directed from the Gulf through Lake Borgne and into Lake Pontchartrain by strong easterly winds in advance of the hurricane. Then, after the eye moved north of NO, and winds began to blow from the north, water fom Lake P. would impinge upon the city. For NO, it was a two part strom. Winds first, then water. In MS, the storm surge and strongest winds occur at the same time.
