We have officials (Governors of two states and Mayors) saying things like this is America's tsunami. What pictures does that conjure up since nearly 300,000 died in a tsunami recently?

The difference was the huge amount of footage we had from many sources from Third World countries. And America has far more news maggots with aircraft and money to buy stories than what could be found during the tsunnami blowout.

We have officials in localities talking about hundreds killed in their own localities when the pictures from those localities look just like what we see in dozens of localities. The extrapolation from these statements and reports is clear.

Actually, I only see reports from a few officials like this. And they're mostly saying they're not doing anything to count the dead, despite the claims on this thread of thousands known to be dead.

Potentially thousands have died.

But that is the topic, isn't it? Not 'potentially'. But thousands actually dead as this thread originally stated as a matter of fact. It's the reason for this behemoth thread which wouldn't have gotten past 100 posts unless it had claimed thousands dead and used such graphic language.

Now, from MFH, we get an eyewitness account that tends to corroborate that. Not to confirm it...just an individual report from the ground.

What we got was a hearsay account from an anonymous poster for which there should be many corroborating accounts but for which there are none after many hours.

As I said...this individual report from MFH's friend tends to line up with those data points...not confirm, them. They were made by a person on scene who is clearly emotionally and physically fatigued from what they are witnessing and who wanted to share their experience and impression with a close friend...who has not passed it on to us. That is all.

Time will tell as to the specifics.

You yourself estimated 1500 dead. If that is so, then what MFH's friend so could easily line up with that too if they happened to be working in the worst hit area.

I hope you are wrong, that the death toll is lower. I fear your own estimate may be low, so I pray I am wrong too.

These things can be discussed and relted without offense or insult. It's a frustrating and horrific thing that we are all, in some way, witnessing and a part of. The important thing is really not what we think one way or another, or who is right in these grizzly estimates. The important thing is that there are a lot of people suffering right now.

I pray God will rest the souls of the departed and strengthen, buoy up, and comfort those who are mourning or continuing to suffer either physically or emotionally.

...and that each of us, in our own spheres of influence will do all we can to help.
