Declare a national emergency, martial law, appoint a point man, take over the NO airport, commander the freight trains, and send in military assets, Sat AM, to coordinate an evac of those who were trapped. That is what I would have done, and I said as much Sat Am. As I said, Jwalsh07 and I chatted about it. We both said, the inaction appeared close to criminal. Just ask him.

Torie, funny you should use the word criminal.

The runoff into the lake and down the Mississippi will continue for days. They should be dropping rafts and paddles, dropping three thousand pound sandbags ain't gonna get the job done with a breech two city blocks wide and water seeking the bowl. The dearth of evac planning and foresight is damn near criminal here.

What a disaster. The failures on the part of the leadership of the affected areas and states and right on up to DC is legion. The power of the sea is awesome. This time the boy was right about the wolf and too many didn't heed the warning.
Plenty of blame to go around but right now the object is search and rescue. New Orleans must be evacuated and that is proceeding at a snails pace. Now I hear they are talking about refrigerator cars for the dead. Forget refrigerator cars, if the death tolls are as high as I think they will be get the living out and cremate the dead.
God bless those poor souls and God give the courage and wisdom to our leaders to get off their asses and make the tough calls. We don't need meetings we need the POTUS to grab the bull by the horns because the locals are not up to the task.
