For a long time I figured they're plants. Make the fundies look bad and all that. The problem is, if it's an act, they are good actors, and Fred Phelps started acting looney decades ago as a cover--The wikipedia entry on him mentions him barelyt escaping going to trial for punching an infant during one of his "sermons" 20 or 30 years ago.

So, I figure they're probably real. If people can look into the Bible and figure that God is enthusiastic about them having anal sex every night, I guess that loneys on the other end of the spectrum aren't that surprising.
