Current estimate from Risk management solutions is 100 Billion dollars. It is interesting that no one mentions the damage on TV. Damage is always mentioned but not this time. I had to do some digging. My initial thought when I heard of the hurricane heading for new Orleans was "goodbye New Orleans." I wonder if or when the poloiticians will have the guts to admit it will not be rebuilt. What building can survive being under 20 feet of water for months.
I think the city is gone. Economically, it will never pay to rebuild such a city.
If NO & LA want to pay for the rebuilding, they can go ahead and do that.
But if they want my tax money to help pay for it, I want a significant say in it. We should have a national dialog if they want "federal money" (IRS-taxpayer money).
It's only fair.
No one should have to pay for a city to rebuild on ground that is BELOW SEA LEVEL, sitting in a virtual BOWL, sided by a huge lake and the Mississippi River on the other side.
NO ONE.
NO can be moved, inland, and the bowl turned into either a bay, port, park or wetlands. Period.
It is offensive to many to have to think of the extra millions if not billions of dollars it will take to build a levee system.
I would rather pay for homes and businesses to be built on land that sits above sea level.
The city can be made more beautiful than ever.
