Did I hear correctly that the USS Iwo Jima is being mobilized to sail up the river? (From what I understand, they are in Norfolk getting ready to ship out)

I have no idea.
there used to be a pair of Navy RO-RO boats across the river from the docks at Jackson.
I'd think, if they are still there, they'd be mobilized for evac.

That would make sense. Those amphibious assault ships could be used for multiple purposes in such a situation. However, I thought she was decommissioned.

Is there a way to get a couple of cruise ships or large ferries into the port?

Wow! They're sending the USS Iwo Jima?
What a great idea indeed. [I reckon it
will take a ship to get in there, at this
point.]
