To gain an additional 24 hours you would be saying that they should have started the evacuation on Friday morning instead of Saturday morning.

You've got your timeline mixed up - mandatory evacuation began Sunday morning.

No, I do not. I understand that the evac order was mandatory on Sunday. Please read some of my other posts if you want to check me on that. The evacuation began on Saturday, it was not mandatory until Sunday.

People are saying they should have evacuated 24 hours earlier. The voluntary evacuation order was in place from the gov and mayor on Sat before noon. Some parishes individually made it mandatory as early as Sat morning. To advance this order 24 hours moves it Friday.

I have also said that the argument as to whether the first order should have been mandatory is open to reasonable discussion. However, also realize that a voluntary order generally precedes a mandatory order so that special needs folks and those who want to get out no matter what have the opportunity to do so before the roads become clogged as they invariably do in mandatory evacuation situations.
