MOSCOW, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is ready to assist the United States in dealing with the damage caused by hurricane Katrina, which has taken 68 lives so far and left behind a tremendous amount of devastation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a message to U.S. President George Bush Tuesday.

"Russia deeply sympathizes with Americans, who faced a disaster of such a colossal scale, and is ready to offer necessary assistance," the Kremlin press service quoted Putin as saying.

Wow, Russia and Venazuala offering aid. When has that ever happened after one of our major disasters? This is incredible. Seeing is believing. I hope they follow through. All other countries are welcome to join in. How many others will?

Can anyone say ESCAPE FROM N.O. Two weeks to get the water out and two months to get power back on.Looking at scenes from biloxi, apartment buildings completely gone but no water.Evacuate NO and after everyone is gone, set a match to it, start over up north near BR. After two months without power very little will be worth salvaging.
