IIRC, last time martial law was declared in the U.S. was in Hawaii during the entirety of WWII.

Nope. Happened in LA during the Rodney King riots, for example. Sounds like there's a serious need for it in NO, too -- looting and serious crisis management needs.

My bad. Still, it is likely to be the longest period of martial law yet declared (besides Hawaii), given the potential for the long cleanup.

Martial Law has been declared many, many times since WW2. Detroit riots, Newark riots, multiple LA riots, etc.
