You're kidding me????? How incredibly insensitive.
The same pissy chrissy matthews, after his hero john kerry was defeated stated that "foreign correspondents" should be sent to the red states.
Not to excuse that a-hole Matthews, but even the folks who go there (primarily Gulf Shores AL) call it that - and proudly.
Yes. Didn't he say that to the governor of Alabama? He did say it to a very high level state official -- who QUICKLY but politely shot Chris down -- "We just call it the 'Gulf Coast', Mr. Mathews."
"Did anyone see the clip last night of Chris Matthews calling the gulf coast 'The Redneck Riviera?'"
That's a very common name for the area. Doesn't seem to offend anyone who lives there.
Matter of fact, most folks seem to like that name...
I think it seems rude for him to do that at a time like this, but I grew up in Alabama and that's what we called it.
Still, it is kinda like redneck jokes. It's okay if you ARE a redneck, but it's rude for a Snotty Harvard Lawyer (no offense to snotty Harvard lawyers intended) to do it, because it is usually mean-spirited.
Don't be too offended in this particular instance... that's what we "rednecks" call it.
Gulf shores and Orange beach have been called (Redneck Riviera) since the late 50's thank you. And we are damned proud of the name. Kenny Stabler went to school in Foley Al and lived in Orange beach w/his grandmother and that is what we used to call it before the (Yankees) found it.LOL
Not to defend Crissy, but some of my friends from the South (Arkansas and Mississippi) proudly refer to that area as the Redneck Riviera.
The Liberal NE hates the South. Why any Southernor would vote for a Democrat is beyond me.
The "Grand Strand" in SC competes for the title ... Spitter no doubt meant it as a putdown, but the locals are very proud of the title. Most wouldn't want the likes of Spitter anywhere near their beloved Coast. BTW, is this the same Chris Matthews who last year paid $3-4M for a summer home on Martha's Vineyard so he could hobnob with the Liberal Elite?
