Suppose the Creator formed that which is natural to give us the opportunity to dispell our own heartlessness and prove we have the capacity for compassion?

Ok. I'm supposing. I see sick old people, helpless young people, poor wretches, all churned up in God's washing machine, reduced to mangled flesh and bone, for what? So those spared can prove to their Creator that they possess compassion? Killing babies and old folks and the poor so WE can prove to HIM our compassion. Sorry, I don't buy it.
