Even the poorest of the poor have tvs and radios. It's tragic that they lost their lives but we are not invincible and buildings aren't either.Shocking disregard for the poor who do not have resources to walk to a shelter, rent a car, or even know people in their poor neighborhoods who can help them. I'm astounded with the reactions I am seeing here.

I look at it as "there but for the grace of God go I". Natural disasters can and do happen everywhere. Some are predictable - some aren't. I think this is a time when we pull together as Americans and help as we can.

Even someone that stayed that could have left should be helped when they can. People stay for various reasons. Often fear. I try not to judge but just pray for them.

You don't like ny posts as a rule and as I pointed out in another post, in FLORIDA, they check every home and make everyone leave unless they sign a paper that they know their life is at risk if they decide to stay. Then, it's easier to ID them afterwards if they are killed in the storm. That's not shocking disregard. It's the grim truth. I mourn the loss of EVERYONE including a national guardsmen who was electrocuted.
Maybe those neighborhoods should have been swept BEFORE Katrina. And, there are schoolbuses and other buses that can transport large numbers of people out of harm's way. Florida does it better apparently.
