Even someone that stayed that could have left should be helped when they can. People stay for various reasons. Often fear. I try not to judge but just pray for them.
I just heard on FOX that even before the National Guard or Rescue Units could get to them that fishermen, in their sport boats were taking them off of roofs:') Regular American Heros.
I remember it being Typhoid Mary.
The majority of Americans are just good people. This country makes me proud!
People make mistakes. In a time of panic and fear we don't all think clearly. Some go numb and paralyze, some go into denial, risk the odds, gamble and sometimes lose; but for crying out loud, their suffering is horrendous and to criticize people during this time is totally heartless. The easiest thing to do is look back. You should be ashamed, and you know who you are.
The people who made the biggest difference in my life are the ones who loved me and helped in spite of my stupid choices. Stop judging and be that.
God help everyone of these people regardless of why or how
they wound up at this place.
Yeah. This is the Katrina victims thread . I like tracking the storms but I'm here now just for support. I think I'll just stick to uplifting posts this evening that brings out some good out of this mess.
Goodness knows I feel for these people, but can somebody remind me of that line when I get arrested for bank robbery? But officer, . . .
Would love to know what you find out about Slidell...we lived there for a time about 5 years ago (left there 8/2000). We have friends in Pass Christian MS and my husband was stationed at Stennis Space Center when we lived in the area.
Thanks!
The first bank to open after 5pm. How long do you think it took the managers to get there to host?:')
People with means can get their pets out with them and figure out a way to board them somewhere if they have to and can hole up in a hotel or with relatives.
Good reason not to own too many pets. I'm down to one. Anybody could be ordered to evacuate anywhere, any time, for a lot of different reasons even if they don't live in tornado alley or areas that are hurricane prone. Toxic spill on interstate, or rr, hostage situation in neighborhood, unforeseen massive power outages, and terrorism of some kind, of course. Must be other things that can happen, too.
I was visiting a farm a couple weeks ago, and life is so different there from the city, it's unbelievable. It's soooo quiet. My son said he could never live like that. He may one day regret having felt that way. The only real danger they would face there might be a bad storm or tornado. Contaminated wells can be dealt with short term, and unless it's in a flood plain, they are pretty safe from almost anything other than criminals and now some wild animals. Most of them are probably armed.
Your post #155 -- awesome reply!
Good choice of words IMHO!
NO messages yet...but I will let you know as soon as something comes my way.
Take care,

Little old ladies on walkers might a a bit more trouble. For that matter, so might a lot of much younger city people who have trouble walking a mile. Seriously walking out of that city might be a problem. It seems as though every path has been covered with concrete or asphalt. As in most cities, even bycicles have a hard time competing with auto traffic. What I could not understand was that for some time they did not let the outgoibng cars use both side of the freeway. That would have more than doubled the excavation rate.
Westbank
Apt complex completely destroyed
UPDATE!
IT WAS OCCUPIED!!
I think they still do eat dogs in the Middle East.
my husband was stationed at Stennis Space Center
I work over at the one in NO EAST
doesn't look good...
I know for a fact they have encroached on land that used to be beaches and moved farther out just like they have in the canyons of CA where there is fire danger. People tend to go farther and farther into areas that shouldn't be developed.
Certain areas should be off limits like how far from the ocean/gulf you can build. Wouldn't hurt tourism but it could sure save tax dollars after a hurricane. I don't believe in building condo's on barrier islands either.
We could definitely run the "Jerk of the Year" contest on this thread. Had some last night as well.
