also, at the time, the alternative was Gore. It wasn't a hard choice for me, despite all that is said above.

also, at the time, the alternative was Gore. It wasn't a hard choice for me, despite all that is said above.

In retrospect, the cliche "lesser of two evils" comes to mind, unfortunately.

You know what bothers me the most? Actually, there are two things.

One - Bin Laden had declared war against us, years ago, starting with the first WTC attack. It's easy to say "well, Clinton was in power, the Republicans weren't, so none of the Republicans that came into office, either elected or appointed, really had any idea that we were at war starting back around '93".

The problem with that belief, is that everybody that paid attention to national security matters saw these attacks against America - USS Cole, Embassy bombings, etc., - it was right there in the newspaper. We had Republican Senators and Representatives that were briefed about these attacks. We had people in the military and in the civilian agencies that knew about these attacks.

I'm not blaming President Bush here, far from it, but I still wonder why going after Bin Laden didn't become a top priority when President Bush was sworn in. He was surrounded by people who were well aware that there were people in the world that wanted to kill Americans, and had done so within the past decade. They may not have known when or where, but they were aware that Bin Laden and others wanted to kill large numbers of Americans.

This ties directly into the other thing that bothers me - it will take another 9/11 before this country realizes the danger our southern border poses.

If, God forbid, another 9/11 happens, your going to see Republicans leaving the GOP in large numbers, saying "What the hell? While you were wasting time and resources strip-searching grannies at the airport, people were walking across our borders unchallenged."

At that point, it will be too late for this country - the democrats will be swept right into office, on the "I told you so" ticket (You gotta give the dems on the border credit for declaring an emergency - if another attack happened, they have positioned themselves for the next election).

You have another attack in this country, and you get democrats in office, your going to see things that make the PATRIOT Act look like a fond memory.

And before anybody says "well, we wouldn't elect another democrat" - your going to see numbers of Republicans leaving the GOP (and for good reason), and your going to see large numbers of people scared whitless, who don't normally vote, who are going to vote.
