that loop shows the eyewall directly hitting new orleans...there was no divine jog that saved nola. You're just wrong about that. The hurricane passed east of New Orleans and no portion of the eyewall went over the city at all.

Worse? A strong cat 4, directly hitting New Orleans from the worst possible direction? What could be worse? Cat 5 about 20-30 miles east of where it tracked. It can always be worse.

wjtv out of Jackson, MS reporting 75% damage to buildings in Biloxi/Gulfport, many buildings completely without roofs.

How that reminds of the the sweet lady interviewed by FNC at the Dome last night, Jackie. She was full of the Lord's message .. repent and acceptance of God's will. I pray she's OK and not enveloped in fearsome thoughts or risk.

Damn, my son, who is home on leave from Iraq, just called and checked in early from leave and volunteered to go to NO for relief duty. The USMC Duty officer said that he had a LOOOOOONG roster of Marines gearing up to go and help. Where do we get young men like these???? Semper Proud! Canteen FYI!!!

Anyone still in a trailer park, better LEAVE. I know it's hard to leave one's home but better to be alive and homeless than dead.

Waves crash against a boat washed onto Highway 90 in Gulfport, Miss.

So there is major flooding in parts of NO, according to Shep, but the bit about the roof being off the pumping station I didn't understand.
Why wouldn't a pump be able to operate, even with the roof off the building.

I'm trying to catch up - what did they do about the leaking Superdome? When I heard that earlier I wanted to cry.

Yeah, but it is going to get interesting as the storm moves north. the silt will be washed into the river and run downstream to the delta. It will be quite a while until they can undertake the dredging and channel building. Debris and silt will be running for weeks. The rains upstream will DEFINITELY affect the delta. This IS NOT over for the delta region.
