They should bring in the LVTP's for this. Armored and amphibious.

The good news is, markets are up. The media spent the all day yesterday trying to use this to "talk down" the economy and it is having no effect. I was thinking yesterday that what I remembered from past catostrophic storms was a huge surge in spending on construction materials. I feel awful for what is happening to all of the people down there, but they will rebuild and spend money.
Hopefully, this will jolt more people into seeing how totally screwed up America's oil refining capabilities are. I was screaming at the TV all day yesterday that if they built more refineries and drilled in ANWR and other places, this storm would only have a minimal effect.

roof of the Superdome and it has been "shredded". I heard earlier that people inside were hunkering down under the concrete areas... like concession stands and corridors.

How do you get that Dopplar imagery to overlay in Google Earth? I've gone through all the layer options, can't find anything for weather. Go to this post for an explanation and more.

The Beau Rivage is a casino/hotel so I guess you would classify it as a resort. The way the coast is laid out, Hwy 90 separates the beach from the houses. Most businesses are located on the beach side and the casinos are required by law to be on the water. In other words, they float on top barges. The Beau Rivage was the most beautiful of all the casinos IMHO
