I think I have a problem with you suggesting bad people are being punished by G-d in this storm. I'm not going to put up with this any longer.

I went back and read Topher's posts--what's wrong with them? Is he not entitled to his opinion here? What's wrong with pondering the idea that God still deals with people the way he did in the Old Testament??

Anyway, as a loving Father, we should know that He will spank. Jesus said that the rain falls on the good and the bad. Flip that to the negative, if you will, and you could say that the good will suffer with the bad. I think that's why lots of us end up on FR anyway, wouldn't you say? Because stupid people do stupid things, all of us suffer through bad laws, etc.

A loving parent might spank a child - would they collapse a building on their child with a bulldozer - drown them in a tub - terrorize them for hours on end? That is what a hurricane is going to do to folks in NO if that is indeed where it hits.

The implication that Deity is directing hurricanes for some punitive purpose is sick. Such a god would be a sadist. I am well nigh convinced that religion is a psychosis.

This passage refers to blessings, not punishment. The writer and readers of this passages lived in the desert. Rain was considered a blessing, not a punishment.
