We all have acquaintances or relatives living down there. At least with this everybody had a chance and plenty of warning to board it up, grab the wedding pictures, and hightail it out. This will mess up the start of the school year. I would sure not rebuild the place where it is now. Valdez was much smaller, but when they rebuilt, it was in a much less dangerous place. Even if the old city doesn't get whacked, they ought to rebuild someplace else anyway and allow the businesses to move, too. The old city is colorful and everything, but people shouldn't be living there anymore. The Port of New Orleans can stay, but they ought to take another look at that, too,
My family is down there as well. They loaded up all 4 of their cars with everything they could take and got out of the city around 11 a.m. By 1 p.m. they had reached Slidell, heading for family in Birmingham. Traffic was moving at 35 mph. Hopefully, they've gotten there by now. We haven't been able to get through to their cell phones.
